Katherine Leverence
Katherine is a writer, nurse, mother of two adult children and wife to Dr. Bob. Her passion is connecting with wise women and sharing life’s lessons. She chose the pen name “Kizeal Brown” after her most distant matrilineal grandmother. She writes to preserve the heritage and create a legacy of feminine wisdom. Katherine was raised in the Catholic faith by devout women who loved the church and God. As an adult she discovered the writings of Sue Monk Kidd and Cynthia Bourgeault, leading her to investigate how women experience God and gendered representations of the Creator. While appreciating the patriarchal context within which Christianity has been preserved, she believes personal faith and spiritual experience are richer than can be described purely in words or contained within institutions and rituals. She embraces a masculine God but also loves the feminine mystical experience brought by Mary and the very real presence of angels among us.
Katherine has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in English literature and language from the University of New Mexico. She spent many years as a hospice and oncology nurse before switching gears and teaching yoga and writing full time. She lives in San Antonio, Texas with her busy husband and two sleepy dogs who like to follow her around the house. Her current adventure is writing a historical novel set in Rochester, New York in 1912-18.
